Description
The Chapel on the Rock (officially, Saint Catherine of Siena Chapel) is a popular tourist landmark in Allenspark, Colorado, visited by thousands every year. The chapel is located on the grounds of the Saint Malo Retreat Center, the retreat center for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Denver, near Mount Meeker. In 1999, Boulder County designated the chapel as a historic site.
The Saint Malo Retreat Center was destroyed by fire in November 2011, but the chapel was not damaged.
During the rock and mud slides of September 2013 (The Colorado Floods), the Chapel on the Rock survived, even though much terrain around it was destroyed. This picture was taken before the fire and the floods.
