In the fall/winter of 2012 I spent a couple of months on my own in the Utah Desert, sleeping in my vehicle, and hiking every day. One of these hikes led me through Bullet Canyon in The Grand Gulch Primitive Area, where I visited Jailhouse Ruins, and Perfect Kiva (see my image Kiva Ladder). One of the things I love most about hiking in the desert is the solitude. I only saw two other people on this day-long hike, and experienced many moments of wonder. When one sits within an ancient ruin like this, one can almost feel the ghosts speak...
