Artist's Description
Every decade or so conditions in Death Valley, CA, are just perfect for a superbloom of flowers, which is incredible considering that Death Valley is known to be 'The Hottest Place On Earth.' I drove to Ashford Canyon to go backpacking, but it also happened to be the area where the Desert Gold were blooming in abundance (a carefully planned twofer). The area I took this shot is near Ashford Canyon, along Badwater Road, which also happens to be below sea level. There were many other flowers in bloom, but the Desert Gold were the most abundant. While I was there, the yellow tint covered the hillsides as far as the eye could see.
