Description
The All American Man is located in an alcove in the very remote Salt Creek section of Canyonlands National Park South, in The Needles District, Utah. I visited this site and the Four Faces site, by backpacking into Salt Creek Canyon for four nights, as a solo trip.
Controversy has surrounded the All American Man pictograph in southeast Utah since its discovery in the 1950s. Its coloration, similar to the flag of the United States of America, has led to questions regarding its authenticity. The Society for American Archaeology obtained two radiocarbon values on a single sample comprised of pigmented sandstone fragments from one small area of this pictograph. They suggest the pictograph dates to the fourteenth century and indicate that it is an authentic, prehistoric pictograph, probably Anasazi in origin.

Think he needs to go on a diet, must have had a lift to his resting place on the wall, unusual photo Roxane, glad you achieved your goal at last to take the pic

Thanks! First time I sold this one. It was a hard won picture. Three night backpacking trip on my own, in the middle of nowhere. Very steep hike into and out of Salt Creek. Long drive in, with gates I could hardly lift to close, sheer drop off's in parts of the road. Really enjoyed it! (I did meet some people and made new friends). Permit only.
